Vamos and Litsarda are centrally located in the Apokoronas area, equal distance between Rethymnon and Chania. An area of outstanding natural beauty, lovely sandy beaches, turquoise blue seas and interesting places to visit. A great location from which to explore Crete.
Vamos is the capital of the Apokoronas area and is an exceptionally interesting traditional village. It is more like a small town because of its facilities. It is very well preserved, with folk and Neoclassical architecture. The beauty of the village is the relaxing pace of life. In such a peaceful location, offering warm hospitality, there are interesting cobbled streets, beautiful old buildings behind many of which lies a story.....
Vamos Village Facilities Include: The exemplary local tavernas offer delightful Cretan specialities cooked by traditional methods. A couple of simple souvlaki tavernas, coffee shops, mini markets, bakery, pharmacy, butcher, dentist, doctor, a bank with 24 hour ATM machine. There are also traditional shops selling local wines, honey, nuts and ceramics.
Litsarda is a sleepy village located approximately 5 minutes drive from Vamos village centre.
Litsarda village and the immediate surrounding area is flat countryside that offers amazing views to the white mountains. Depending on winter snowfall, the mountains remain snow capped from December to early June lending the area to outstanding beauty . At times you would be forgiven for thinking you were in the Austrian countryside.
There are several easy tracks and roadways that can be enjoyed by foot or bicycle and further exploration by car allows you to enjoy some of the most stunning scenery found in Crete.

Place to see and visit in West Crete
Almyrida beach & fishing harbour - Sandy beach, ideal for families. Good facilities including international restaurants, bars and mini markets.
Georgoupolis - A busier little town offering a wider selection of tavernas, bars and beach side entertainment. With an attractive little fishing harbour - here you can enjoy local boat trips.
Lake Kournas - Located inland from Georgoupolis, an amazing oasis providing sanctury for many wild birds. Down by the water’s edge you can laze in a shady lake side taverna or try your stamina with the pedaloes and canoes.
Falassarna Beach - Travel further west of Chania to the pretty beaches at Falassarna. Great for snorkelling, has sandy beaches and popular with visitors to West Crete area.
Elafonissi Beach - Situated on the south west coast. It offers pink sand and if very popular with day trippers. Best time to visit in high season, is late afternoon when the crowds start to disappear.
Samaria Gorge - Go hiking in one of Europe’s longest gorges. A place of natural beauty and a great hiking challenge.
