Here are a few tips to help you to decide which airport is more suitable for your needs when travelling to Crete
Crete has 2 airports: Heraklion and Chania
It is worth noting that there is a motorway which stretches almost the entire North coast and in most parts this is now dual carriageway. This allows for faster, easier access between airports.
1. HeraklionAirport (Airport code: HER)
Heraklion is the busiest airport in Crete and the most popular airport for many airline companies. You will normally find a larger selection of flight timings and flight days to suit your needs.
The airport is situated in a fairly central location on the North coast and within approx 90 minutes drive of our cottages.
2. Chania Airport (Airport code: CHQ)
Chania airport is much smaller in comparison to Heraklion airport, has less traffic and slightly less facilities but has a more relaxed, laid-back feel about it. There is a smaller selection of airlines and flight days available to chose from. Chania airport is the better option if you prefer a quick transfer from airport to accommodation and is within approx 45 minutes drive of our cottages.
